A solid keyboard with few surprises :)

QMK/VIA support is the main reason I went for this keyboard, and it did not disappoint! It works flawlessly everywhere!

As for the surprise... it's HEAVY -- a total brick! If someone breaks into my house.. I have just the weapon!
Additionally, the build quality is supreme, so I can just plug it right back into my computer!

Exactly what I was after

I've been using it for a day and have fallen in love with it. I bought the barebones version as well as the PC plate and have had a blast building it. The sound is incredible (tape & force break mod + lubed switches. Need to mod the stabs).
It looks perfect on my desk (silver case, BOW keycaps) and the key-spacing is just right. It feels gentler on the fingers to type on than my K1 Ver 4.
Programming with VIA was simple and I've programmed a numpad into it so I get to keep keypad printer lights in Davinci Resolve without having to have a large board. I'm a lefty, so it's kind of nice to have the keypad on the left (I've set the right-alt key to toggle the keypad).
I enjoy typing on it so much I found this review request just so that I'd have something to type up. That's how much of a pleasure to use it is. Highly recommend!

This is such an amazing keyboard

I've had mechanical gaming keyboards for years, but this keyboard blows them out of the water. I haven't tried to modify or change it in any way, it's just amazing out of the box. Sounds great, and it's super heavy which isn't good or bad really but just a real surprise when you lift it.

The biggest challenge for me is going from a full size keyboard to this one, as the arrow keys and shift button are laid out differently and it's messing with my muscle memory. But I'll get used to it. In hindsight, probably would have made sense to go to a TKL layout first to get used to not having a numpad, then to something like this. But either way, zero regrets with this keyboard.

Great keyboard

This is a huge step up from the K6v2 I had before. It feels so much more sturdy and well built. I paired it with Boba U4T switches and the stock PBT keycaps, and it feels and sounds awesome.

Please note that the knob color may be slightly different with the case (the blue and grey only) as these parts are manufactured separately.

Double-Gasket Design

The Double Gasket Design is a new innovative structure in the industry. In addition to the gaskets on the plates, we added silicone pads between the top and bottom cases to significantly reduce the sound resonance between the metals and reduce the noise of the impacted metals. This Double-Gasket Structure allows the keyboard to maintain the flexibility of the gasket structure and improves the overall typing sound.

Programmable Knob

Designed to enhance your creative workflow, the premium rotary encoder allows you to customize your favorite keys and macros through the innovative VIA software with ease.

OSA Profile Double-shot PBT Keycaps

For the new double-shot PBT keycaps, we built a new profile. It has a similar height to that of the OEM profile and has a SA-like shape. We named it the OSA (OEM spherical angled) keycap. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.

Switch layouts between macOS & Windows

Built with the Mac users’ experience in mind while still retaining compatibility for Windows devices, the Keychron Q2 comes with a system toggle and an additional set of customized keycaps for both Windows and macOS systems. You can now save two different layouts on the keyboard, one for each system.

Program Q2 with QMK & VIA

With full QMK and VIA support, you can program and remap each key on the keyboard with ease. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, even the knob and more.

A brand new ultra-low-power Arm Cortex-M4 32-bit STM32L432 MCU which is powerful, and armed with 128K Flash will provide more flexibility for developers.

To get started, please download the appropriate key map JSON file below, open VIA, turn on "Show Design tab" on "Settings" tab, drag the JSON file into the “Design” tab on VIA to get the Q2 keymap working on VIA. Since the VIA code for the Q2 is still awaiting approval from Github, it is not yet automatically recognized, so you will need to download and enter the Q2 keymap manually.

Hot-swappable

The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB, so you can install or change the switches without soldering. The PCB supports both 3 pin and 5 pin MX mechanical switches.

South-facing RGB LED Lights

The south-facing RGB is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the user installs Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on their keyboard.

All New Screw-In PCB Stabilizers

The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less wobbly. The big keys’ (space bar, shift, enter, delete) typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron Q2 also supports third-party stabilizers including Cherry or Durock.

ANSI & ISO Layouts

ISO layout is widely used in Europe while the ANSI layout is widely used by the rest of the world.

Note: If you live in Europe, we recommend you to purchase the "Barebone ISO” version with the corresponding ISO keycaps. The "Barebone ISO” is suitable for all ISO keyboard countries like the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, etc.
